Chris' Optometry Journey: My Intro and Origins
Hey all of you guys out there! My name is Christopher Nguyen, but you can call me Chris for short, and welcome to my blog!
I’m currently an optometry student at the University of Houston College of Optometry. Recently, I survived my first year of optometry school, technically making me ¼ of an optometrist. So, in 3 more years, I can be your future optometrist (if you’re close to my area 😉).

Wait that’s WAYYYY TOOO long ago and in a different universe. Let me start over.
Four years ago, at the University of Houston, there was an undergrad student who had a dream of becoming an optometrist. In order to learn more about optometry, the undergrad student joined the UH Pre-optometry Professional Society, or POPS for short, and from there his life changed for the better. Ever since he joined, the undergrad student volunteered in many events around Houston, shadowed an amazing optometrist who taught him important optometric and life lessons, and encountered many extraordinary people who had helped him along his journey to get into optometry school.
During my third year in POPS I’ve met so many amazing people who have helped me get this far.

In the picture on the right is the lovely optometrist, Dr. Tran seen enjoying her birthday lunch in the clinic’s break room. For the last three years she has graciously let me shadow her and have taught me everything that she knows about becoming an amazing optometrist!
Along my journey, I had a couple of my friends who gave up on their dream to become optometrists due to the challenges that this journey threw at us. So, I want to tell you guys my experiences and regrets that I had during my journey to becoming and optometrist in order for you guys to learn from them and be prepared for your own optometric journey.
