Our Background
So...you can’t really know “about us” without knowing about the folks who made us. This blog is a tribute to our parents who risked it all as boat people (you know...the ones you read about in textbooks?) to come to America with nothing but the clothes on their backs.
We also want to dedicate our work to two grandparents who carried us home from the hospital and cared for us until their final breaths - our maternal grandfather (Ông Ngoại), Ba Cong Nguyen, and adoptive Irish grandfather, Lawrence (Larry) Reynolds. May you rest in peace and experience all the joys and wonders of the universe in your next life.
Meet the Sibs
Now the Nguyen Sibs are made up of three tenacious Vietnamese-American (with a dash of Chinese sprinkled in) individuals who know one thing for sure: family means everything.
We fight, argue, disagree, get bossed around by our oldest sibling or deal with the derpy moments from the younger siblings, but one thing is certain - we just want to be happy together. No matter how mad or sad one of us makes each other, we’ve always got each others’ backs.
As of May 2020, the Nguyen Sibs have crossed a huge stepping stone for children of immigrants across the United States, and maybe even the world. Gen (the youngest) graduated from university! Why is this important?
We’re 90% of the way to being successful! (We all define success differently - check our future posts to gain inspiration on defining that for you.)
What is Success?
Success for us encompasses 3 things:
1. Having time to spend with family
2. Being able to afford what we want, when we want *within reason
And most importantly:
3. Creating stable careers so that our parents no longer have to worry
Our parents are very traditional - they believe in working their entire lives for us kids. Every single penny they earn, they’ve set it aside for us. They always tell us “we can’t quit, retire, or die until we see you all are able to live comfortably and take care of yourselves.” But what about them?!
The Mission
We want to be able to give back and help them realize that everything they worked for paid off. They’ve worked and suffered for long enough - it’s time for them to sit back and relax. Nguyening Lifestyles is our way to achieve that by sharing some awesome, interesting, and sometimes ‘cringey’ content and hopefully making a bit of money (through your support)!
We’ll each give you our own individual takes on life and how we got to where we are today thanks to the teachings that our parents instilled in us. We’re not saying that everything we did, do, and think is infallible or will work for you. But maybe you might pick something up that will prevent you from making a (potentially costly) mistake, or maybe you might pick up a joke or two! Because #LetsBeReal, hindsight is 20/20, so let’s make 2020 our year to live that 20/20 life!
And most importantly, we’re here to help you remember to always dream big! There’s going to be ups-downs, side-to-sides, and even lazy days in life. There will be days that you want to share your rage and scream your successes. Days where you want to mope in a corner or hide from embarrassment. We hope that you’ll read our posts, watch our videos, and listen to our podcasts to share in that energy and help you get through it, so you can reach your dreams!
