To those of you reading this right now, have you ever had a bad day where nothing was going the way you wanted it?
Pissed off to the point where you just wanted to ruin someone else’s day?
Feel so crappy that you just wanted to disappear from existence?
Well don’t worry. We’ve all been through those days where things don’t turn out the way we wanted them to. Nobody’s life is a fairytale that works out perfectly.
I know we all wish to live in a world where there is no such thing as a bad day, but hey… life isn’t fair.
For me, I’ve been through so many bad days where people made me feel like crap, my plans were ruined, or worse - not getting an A on an exam that I studied so HARD on. And during those days, I felt so sad and mad...I was afraid I might’ve done something stupid. Like seriously, these uncontrolled emotions can make us do something that we will regret later.
So for y’all who are having a bad day out there, I know we can get super cranky and all, but try not to ruin other people’s day… unless you want to make a ton of enemies…
Seriously, let’s not go there.
Instead, channel all of that negativity from that bad day into something good. On days like that, I try to do as many good deeds as I can. I’d help other students understand a concept for their class or give directions to a family who couldn’t find the building they were looking for on campus.
And if that’s not your jam, you can always try to convert that negativity into fitness gains. Get out to the gym and pump some iron or go out for a run!
If you’re not the workout type, try to watch something funny. For me, whenever something ruins my day (lately, it’s been a lot of not so stellar grades), I usually watch The Office. Even when things get really rough, I can’t help but laugh at Michael, Jim, and Dwight’s shenanigans. Laughing is such an easy way to turn my bad days upside down.
...just don’t watch so much you end up binging 3 seasons and wasting several days slumping on the couch. Then you’ll REALLY feed throw oil onto the fire.
My point is don’t let your whole day get ruined by a few bad moments. There are 24 hours in a day. Sure a couple of them weren’t so great, but what about the rest of them?
Don’t let them go to waste. You can still come out with a win as long you keep doing stuff that makes you feel good.
And importantly… don’t think about all of this as just getting your mind off of a bad day.
Think about doing all of this as a way to boost up your self-esteem and stay positive so you can endure any bad day that comes at you.
