I’ve been pushing off grad school because I didn’t want to find myself working 40-50 hour weeks on top of a heavy course load again during what will arguably be the most important years of my life. I want to be able to focus 100% of my attention to study and love learning about medicine, law, business, etc. so that I can do justice for my patients and clients in the future. Not worry about scanning job boards for the next side hustle.

Which brings me to Ramit Sethi. By some sheer act of faith (and really complicated SEO and analytics), a podcast I was listening to featured Ramit Sethi. It was a wholesome conversation as Ramit and the host were walking through New York. You could hear the sound of the busy streets and scuttling New Yorkers brushing by. But Ramit was talking about how he just spent money on whatever he wanted and how he justified it using small gains. I was instantly hooked when he basically brought up a small lifehack that I’ve been using since I was 13 to quickly save some money on my family’s phone bill. And then I realized, I’ve seen this guy everywhere, I just wasn’t paying attention!

So fast forward a month later, the world shut down, I was looking at my new year's resolutions and saw that it was 3 months into 2020, and I only started 2 books, but hadn’t finished any. I grabbed my iPad, downloaded I will teach you to be rich, and for the next 48 hours, I was hooked. Why? Because everything he said was just making the voice in my head squeal “AHH!!! That’s Me! I can relate!”

I immediately showed my girlfriend, and she was like…”wow, babe this guy is like an older version of you!” And I realized I found another role model to look up to. I immediately recommended it to 3 of my friends, but they kind of brushed it off because well…we’re all busy! So instead, I decided to write this post to give you 4 reasons why you should read it, or at least read my following posts on the things I learned from it.

1. It puts you into the right mindset to start saving money without making you think you have to learn anything. In fact, it follows the principle of KISS - "keep it simple, stupid."

2. You get real scenarios that actually work - things that I’ve been doing and telling my friends and family to do to quickly save some money, but they never listen because they’re skeptical. If you want to see how the conversations usually go, read it here.

3. He gives you real talk about investing: (1) where to start, (2) how to get there, and (3) why you shouldn’t be afraid.

4. You learn about how being cheap is not the same as being frugal.

In this book recommendation series, I’ll be pulling quotes that really resonated with me and discussing my thoughts on how I implemented them in my life, so that hopefully YOU can have that “AHH!!! That’s Me” moment too! See you around in the next post! And don’t forget that you can always comment and discuss because maybe you read it and think of something awesome that I didn’t see the first time!

Let’s all be rich and build wealth together.
